Our Impact

Problem/Challenge

UK Armed Forces and the civil sector is reliant on the availability of accurate Position Navigation & Timing (PNT) information. The increasing use of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) jamming and spoofing techniques has clearly demonstrated the vulnerability of stand-alone GNSS and the need for alternative PNT solutions. A System of Systems Approach (SOSA) is needed to provide an Assured PNT (APNT) capability, ensuring that navigation and time information is available even when GNSS is not.

Task

An assessment of UK capability and capacity was requested by UK Strategic Command to support future investment plans to mitigate the threat. The UKDSC undertook analysis and produced a report where 42 industrial/academic organisations participated. The analysis included assessment of overseas markets.

Impact

The output is now directly supporting the DASA led End to End (E2E) challenge and was used to support the PNT MilCap Industry Days held during 2024.

"An impressive breadth of analysis."

MOD

"This is a very useful reference for the PNT sector including government and industry. Given the increasing criticality of
PNT across UK defence, the report comes at a critical time when UK seeks to invest in assured PNT capabilities."
