Our Impact
International Engagement
The UKDSC International Engagement team supports the DGP ‘export led growth’ objective by identifying mid-to-long term opportunities and approaches aimed at increasing the UK’s success internationally.

The UKDSC tasking includes assessing the geo-political and competitive environments of specific markets and regions. Identifying barriers and considerations which may affect the UK’s ability to compete, collaborate or operate in certain markets. The team then produces analysis, roadmaps, and strategies for the DGP to review and action. This culminates in joined-up government-industry approaches that facilitate impactful engagements with partner nations, contributing to deeper bilateral ties, multi-domain opportunities and mutually beneficial industrial partnerships.
Outcomes
At any one time, the UKDSC can be working on several international markets, addressing the specific defence related characteristics associated with a country, with the aim to get a better understanding of their needs and requirements. From this information, the UK can co-develop outcomes that are mutually beneficial. These may be politically driven, such as reducing trade barriers or commercial restrictions, through to development of bilateral design and development projects to meet respective military requirements.
One example is the work being undertaken in Australia, where the UKDSC has been working closely with MOD and the Australian government to identify potential collaborative opportunities. Last year, the UKDSC supported the MOD to undertake an assessment of UK capabilities to meet the AUKUS Pillar 2 Advanced Capability Areas. This work could assist in identifying UK strengths in certain AUKUS capability areas or find opportunities to invest and enhance UK innovation to support this trilateral collaborative venture.
Impact
The UKDSC’s unique operating model allows it to work effectively and impartially with MOD, industry and partner nations to formulate potential collaborative opportunities and roadmaps which are mutually beneficial for both nations. These could lead to new bilateral agreements or build upon existing collaborative programmes.
