UKDSC’s Cobham Graduate Reflects On Her Secondment

Stephanie Carter, Market Intelligence Lead, has spent six months with the UKDSC on secondment from Cobham as part of her final graduate placement. Stephanie departed the UKDSC on 06 April to return to her first post graduate scheme role within Cobham. Upon departing, she shared her views on the UKDSC and being a secondee.

“I joined the UKDSC in October 2017 on a six month secondment from my parent company, Cobham. Upon starting my market intelligence role at the UKDSC, I was keen on developing my analytical skills and obtaining a broader understanding of defence. I quickly realised that the secondment had much more to offer – a view into how UK Government operates across defence and political landscapes; an exploration of various entry routes into international markets through industry collaboration and partnership; and a grasp of international politics and the impact it has on the UK defence industry.

The unique industry secondment environment has given me the opportunity to meet people from various companies and backgrounds. Despite these differences, everyone at the UKDSC shares the same enthusiasm to improve and maintain the UK defence industry and national prosperity. It’s been a pleasure to work within a high energy team and in a rewarding role. The experience I’ve gained at the UKDSC is unlike any other work I’ve carried out previously and has benefitted my development as I now return to Cobham.

It’s obvious how much the UKDSC has grown since it’s birth in 2015 and I’m excited to stay in touch and see how it develops further in the coming years.”
