BAE Systems Secondee Reflects on her time with the UKDSC

During my secondment at UKDSC, I had the privilege to work across industry and government pursuing international collaboration; a very interesting and complex subject matter. I was specifically focused on building ties between UK and Japan, with a supporting role in other strategic markets. This focus has involved ownership and contribution to a spectrum of activities from high-level government engagements discussing strategic priorities, to more tactical focused aspects with industry and collaborating with think tanks.

A highlight of this role, has to be attending DSEI Japan 2020, the first integrated defence exhibition held in Tokyo and representing UKDSC. Being in country, holding workshops with Japanese representatives from government, industry and trade body associations in British Embassy, Tokyo, was an invaluable experience. This secondment has facilitated a unique opportunity to sit in an impartial trusted space, amongst many learned colleagues, with great ability to flex and get involved with multifaceted activities.

My time at UKDSC has greatly increased my understanding and exposure to strategic matters across defence and the international environment. I look forward to taking these learnings further into my next and future roles, and thank all those who have made this secondment a truly enjoyable experience.
