The UKDSC is supporting the UK Delegation attending the AVALON Aerospace and Defence show being held this week, near Melbourne. The atmosphere is excellent, with plenty of high-level engagement and exciting announcements. Highlights include the formal launch of Team Maier, where Airbus has partnered with key Australian space and technology companies and academia, with the intention to deliver MilSatCom capability and sovereignty in Space. BAE Australia unveiled STRIX, the first hybrid unmanned aerial system (UAS) designed and manufactured in Australia. This tandem-wing, multi-domain UAS can perform vertical take-off and landing, eliminating the need for long runways, and can carry payloads up to 160kg up to a range of 800km.
Chris Nunn (Executive Director for International Collaboration & Exports) commented “this is the first AVALON held since the pandemic, and it is so good to hold face-to-face meetings with customers and colleagues from Australia and globally. AVALON has always been a highlight in the events calendar and this year has not disappointed, thanks to the Royal Australian Air Force and event organisers”
