UKDSC Employee completes London Marathon

On Sunday 22 April, Steve Walker, Head of Strategic Capability, took on the challenge of the infamous London Marathon. Despite temperatures reaching over 24 degrees, in a record breaking hottest London Marathon to date, Steve completed the course successfully and with a remarkable amount of determination.  Steve has so far raised an impressive £5300 for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process and if you would like to read Steve’s inspiration for running and contribute the Macmillan cause please follow the link www.justgiving.com/fundraising/steve-walker-london-marathon-2018

Steve recalls the day, “We all trained through the coldest winter in 50 years only to run in the hottest ever race, so times for us mere mortals were never going to be quick.  The atmosphere that is the London Marathon is phenomenal though and with the support of family, friends, Team Macmillan and the memories of those I know who have or are battling cancer, I persevered through the heat, slowly getting through the miles until the relief of the finish line came into sight!  The sense of achievement was immense and for reach runner to be cheered into the after race celebration by the Macmillan support team was the icing on the cake.”
