UKDSC CEO Samira Braund reflects on her first 100 Days

Having been with UKDSC for over 5 years, both as a secondee and a direct hire, when you are handed the reigns to deliver such a vital role across the defence eco-system (to support the Defence Growth Partnership (DGP), deliver export led growth), the most important asset is the team you have around you.

Within this period, I am proud to share that we have made some significant achievements. The Joint Economic data Hub (JEDHub) reached full operating capability, with our first joint economic report to be published in the New Year. In creating the JEDHub, we have created a digitalised data capability, that will see UKDSC deliver actionable intelligence. The team has helped mature the DGP strategic markets and working with our HMG colleagues, identified opportunities for co-operation, supported by our recent S&T report. Through our cross-sector initiative, UKDSC has secured a 12:1 return of investment for the Royal Navy through our ‘Subsea Autonomous Systems’ competition and is securing further investment for our next initiative in ‘High Altitude Intelligence’.

UKDSC has built its capability and credibility on a strong market intelligence foundation and my team’s success has resulted in the Ministry of Defence committing to a further three years of funding. As we transition into the next phase of delivery and as you have seen from my recent announcements, I have re-structured the organisation to grow our capability and build resilience. Focus now moves towards agreeing the strategic priorities over the next three years with our DGP stakeholders, with emphasis placed on ‘export led growth’.

Finally, I would like to thank my colleagues across the DGP for their support and hope you all enjoy the festive break with loved ones and friends.

Warm Wishes

Samira
