Lord Prior visits the UKDSC

Lord Prior of Brampton, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, visited the UK Defence Solutions Centre (DSC) on 15 February 2017.

Lord Prior was briefed by the senior leadership team and was also given a tour of the UK DSC to explain how it operated and provided collaborative support to government and companies competing in the global defence market.

During his visit Lord Prior was able to meet with two innovation challenge winners: Createc and Polaris Consulting. Createc is a small business based in Cumbria, which is working on “Big Data Driven Autonomous Navigation for Urban S-UAS” in collaboration with Swarm Systems, University College London, and Blue Bear. Polaris Consulting, a small SME based in Hampshire, is focused on “Research and Development into Maritime Autonomous Navigation and Mission Effectiveness in GPS Limited Environments”.

Lord Prior said:

“The collaboration and innovation I saw here embodies what our Industrial Strategy is all about. It’s about joining these areas up, to enable us to identify all of the opportunities across our economy so that businesses can grow, create more well-paid jobs and spread the benefits of our economic success right across the country.”

UKDSC Chief Executive, Steve Brittan said:

“It is core to our mission to foster collaboration across UK industry, leading to the generation of valuable new Intellectual Property that will lead to economic prosperity. We are delighted to work with companies such as Createc and Polaris, and connect them to our growing network which touches government, industry and academia. The ongoing support of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is invaluable to the UKDSC”
